Welcome to the 2002 Sketchbook. This is the second largest sketchbook section on the site next to 2004. Most of the drawings found here were done from September to December of 2002 when I was sketching away like mad. At this point in my development I wasn't verturing away from pencil drawings at all, but I think I grew a lot as an artist during this short period. I was trying, at the time, to break away from my bad habit of not putting figures in any kind of space or environment, so you'll find a lot of full-page sketches here, as you will in the 2003 section. I've learned, though, that there are times when a figure calls for a background, and there are times when it doesn't. I'd like to think that I've become a good judge of whether or not a given figure is meant to stand alone, naked in the void. |
